(Newser) – A Kansas man has admitted to killing his girlfriend on a cruise to the Bahamas. Eric Newman of Topeka pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder in the death of 50-year-old Tamara Tucker of Missouri, with whom he'd set out on a four-day cruise in 2018, per the AP. Carnival Elation was about 30 nautical miles from Florida's New Smyrna Beach when the pair argued in their cabin on the 13th deck on Jan. 19, reports the Kansas City Star.

It was just after midnight that Newman strangled Tucker with both hands then pushed her over a balcony, prosecutors say. The former Park University professor of social work landed on the 11th deck and was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma. Her obituary described Newman as her "longtime love." He's to be sentenced March 18. (Read more murder stories.)
