Markets Edge Up Again, Claiming Record Ground

(Newser) – Stocks closed Monday with modest gains, lifting the market's major indexes to record highs, per the AP. Trading was mostly muted as investors look ahead to a shortened holiday week. The S&P 500 rose 2 points to 3,224; the Dow rose 96 points to 28,551; and the Nasdaq rose 20 points to 8,945. Boeing jumped after the company said its CEO was resigning immediately as the crisis related to its 737 Max aircraft drags on. Homebuilders, on the other hand, were broadly lower after the Commerce Department said new home sales increased in November at a slower rate than analysts expected. (Read more stock market stories.)
