Hooray, Democrats! You dumped Hillary Clinton, not for her positions, or because you were sexist, but over her "essential nature," Peggy Noonan writes in the Wall Street Journal. Another Clinton White House would have meant lies, scandal, drama, and "the sheer, daily madness that is her, and him"—aka, husband Bill. "She lost because enough Democrats looked at her and thought: I don't like that, I don't like the way she does it, I'm not going there," Noonan writes.

"Most candidates lose over things, not over their essential nature. But that is what happened here. For all her accomplishments and success, it was her sketchy character that in the end did her in." And Clinton's drama train still managed to drown out a great American moment: the naming of a black man for presidential nominee. (More Hillary Clinton stories.)
