Cops: Florida Man Planned to 'Start a War' With Deputies
Glen Ressler.   (Putnam County Sheriff's Office)

A heavily armed man in northeast Florida planned to "start a war" with police, but deputies managed to take him into custody, police say. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office says it received a call around 3:30am Sunday about Interlachen resident Glen Ressler, WTSP reports. The 42-year-old allegedly planned to get in a shootout with police because he was angry that deputies had seized his suspended driver's license during a traffic stop, reports WFLA. The sheriff's office says deputies went to Ressler's home after hearing about his threats toward law enforcement and a deputy using night vision spotted him approaching, wearing a tactical vest and armed with four firearms.

The sheriff's office says deputies were able to disarm Ressler "through dialog, exceptional skill, and tactical planning," and he was taken into custody without further incident. The sheriff's office said in a statement that it would like to thank "the concerned citizen who alerted us to this situation and to commend our deputies on a job well done," per Action News Jax. Ressler faces four charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and one charge of violation of a domestic violence injunction. (More Florida stories.)
