"Have I missed anything? Did I miss any news?" James Corden joked with his studio audience Monday. The Late Late Show host was, of course, referring to the hubbub sparked since he was banned, then unbanned from the New York City restaurant Balthazar over his reported treatment of the waitstaff there. Corden largely circumvented talking about the controversy during a recent interview, but on his own show, he finally broached what had gone down, per the New York Times. "Whenever these sorts of moments come my way, I like to adopt quite a British attitude—sort of keep calm and carry on," Corden told his audience, noting his "motto" is to "never complain, never explain."

However, he said that his dad had told him over the weekend: "Son, well, you did complain, so you might need to explain." The 44-year-old comedian admitted that, after an order got botched at Balthazar for his wife, who has food allergies, he had indeed made "a sarcastic, rude comment," which he says he now regrets. "Because I didn't shout or scream" or "call anyone names or use derogatory language," Corden noted that he originally made excuses for his behavior. "But the truth is ... I made a rude comment and it was wrong," he said. "It was ungracious to the server."

Corden confirmed that, after Balthazar owner Keith McNally slammed him on Instagram last week, they'd since had a "good talk," and that the eatery owner "appreciated the call," per NBC News. Corden added that he'd worked in the restaurant industry himself in the past, and that he loves Balthazar and its staff—so much so, that he plans on heading there the next time he's in New York so he can apologize in person. "I hope I'm allowed in again one day," he said. Clip in full here. (More James Corden stories.)
