(Newser) – Miami-Dade police are searching for a suspect who killed one officer and wounded three today, possibly with an AK-47, after his car was stopped while driving erratically. The pursuit was complicated when police misidentified a man whose wallet had been stolen as the gunman, before naming Shawn Sherwin Labeet as the correct suspect, the Herald reports.

Officials closed streets and highway exits and ordered residents to remain indoors, as officers wearing combat helmets and fatigues patrolled neighborhoods. “This is a very sad day for us,” Miami-Dade’s mayor said. “We need to get this guy.” (Read more Miami-Dade County stories.)
