To say Jon Stewart doesn’t quite agree with former George W. Bush speechwriter Marc Thiessen is a bit of an understatement. Things got heated between the two last night on the Daily Show, as Thiessen discussed his new book Courting Disaster and the lawyers he calls the “al-Qaeda Seven.” Stewart argued that the lawyers representing accused terrorists aren’t sympathetic to terrorists—they simply “believe in the rule of law and that the country’s fabric is decided, not by the easiest cases to take, but the hardest cases to take.”

Shortly thereafter, the two started to talk over one another; the discussion gets particularly awkward 10 minutes into the first gallery video, when Thiessen realizes the on-air portion of his interview is about to end. “Unbelievable. I can’t get my points out on the air? You did most of the talking. That’s amazing,” he says. After apologizing, Stewart promises, “We will come back, I will try and correct it on the web, you can say that and people will judge just how poorly you’ve been treated.”
