A federal grand jury is considering bringing rape charges against David Copperfield, unidentified law enforcement officials told the Seattle Times. A 21-year-old aspiring model told police that Copperfield, 51, lured her to his private island and raped her, then threatened her to keep quiet. Copperfield's attorney chided law enforcement for the leak, saying, “It casts doubt on the integrity of the investigation.”

After returning to the US, Copperfield's accuser went to a sexual assault center, where federal sources confirm that clothing and other evidence were collected. Though Copperfield’s island is outside US waters, federal authorities are claiming jurisdiction because the woman's flight began and ended in the US. (More David Copperfield stories.)
