A bear hunter is in critical condition after he was mauled by a grizzly this weekend in Alaska. It was the first bear attack in the state this year, state officials said. Onetime Nome fire chief Wes Perkins, 54, was flown to a Seattle hospital after Sunday’s attack. He and two friends had been pursuing the bear on a snowmobile when it charged Perkins, Reuters reports. His fellow hunters gunned down the bear and radioed for help. (More grizzly bear stories.)
