Michelle Obama Makes First Speech for 2012 Presidential Campaign
First lady Michelle Obama speaks at the Democratic National Committee's Women's Leadership Forum in Washington, Thursday, May 19, 2011.    (Susan Walsh)

Michelle Obama made her first foray into the 2012 presidential campaign yesterday, telling donors that her husband needs them to "work like you have never worked before" so he can finish the job he started. Though the first lady said her husband has accomplished much in almost 2 1/2 years, she told a Democratic Party women's group that “we should not be satisfied" and there's much more to do.

The first lady hit many of the same notes as the president has in his recent campaign speeches. "So I have one question for you. Are you in?" she said, riffing on the Obama campaign's re-election theme. "I hope that all of you are fired up. I hope that all of you are ready to go." She also discussed her cynicism about the president's 2008 campaign and politics in general and said she'd work harder this time, too. (More First Lady Michelle Obama stories.)
