Some 1,700 of those "bandits" have now been arrested throughout Britain, with 600 charged in London over violence, looting, and disorder, the AP reports. Courts stayed open for the second night in a row to deal with the suspects, with Mayor Boris Johnson calling for “significant sentences.” A 22-year-old man was arrested today, suspected of murdering a 68-year-old who took a stand against rioters. The victim was one of four reported deaths in the riots; three others were hit by a car while trying to protect local businesses, the Telegraph reports. (Read more London riots stories.)
