Banning beer at the 2014 World Cup is not an option, FIFA chief Jerome Valcke has warned Brazil. The world soccer kingpin, visiting the country for an inspection tour, says he isn't happy about the state of Brazil's infrastructure, the pace of construction at stadiums and, in particular, a government squabble over alcohol sales at the 12 venues that will host the World Cup, the BBC reports.

"Alcoholic drinks are part of the FIFA World Cup, so we're going to have them," Valcke told reporters, saying that the right to sell beer must be included in a World Cup bill Brazilian lawmakers are debating. "Excuse me if I sound a bit arrogant but that's something we won't negotiate." Brazil banned alcoholic drinks at soccer stadiums in 2003 in an attempt to stem violence between rival fans.
