Mitt Romney may give his campaign a boost by naming a running mate much earlier than usual. Naming his pick now, weeks ahead of the convention, would allow the Romney campaign to open up a new front against President Obama, with two people on the stump and raising money instead of one, Romney advisers tell Reuters. Plus, it would distract the media from Obama's calls for more Romney financial disclosures.

Romney himself wasn't tipping his hand when asked about it at a campaign stop in Colorado yesterday. "I can't give you the timeline for that. That's a decision we'll make down the road. Nor can I give you the individual," he said. With an international trip planned in two weeks, which will include the opening ceremony of the London Olympics and a visit to Jerusalem, Romney could announce his choice next week or when he gets back at the beginning of August.
