Protesters once again faced off with Anaheim police yesterday after an officer shot and killed an unarmed man Saturday. More than 600 demonstrators thronged outside City Hall while a meeting was being held inside, and things got violent: Patio chairs were thrown through a Starbucks window, the windows of at least five other businesses and one vehicle were shattered, multiple fires were set, walls were spray-painted, one person was injured, and five people were arrested as some of the protesters threw water bottles and rocks toward police. Police also fired non-lethal projectiles into the crowd.

In addition to Saturday’s shooting, the Anaheim community is upset over a second fatal police shooting Sunday—the year's fifth death at the hands of an Anaheim officer—though that man reportedly opened fire on police during a chase, Reuters notes. Officials will ask federal authorities to investigate the shootings, the Los Angeles Times reports. (More Anaheim stories.)
