Brooklyn Honors Beastie Boy With a Park

Adam Yauch gets honor a year after his death

(Newser) – Beastie Boy Adam Yauch died almost exactly a year ago of cancer, and today he got a nice tribute from his hometown of Brooklyn. The parks department renamed a small park in his honor, reports USA Today. "This is real! And it is awesome," declares Daily Intel. (Here's an example of why Yauch, who died at age 47, is as revered as he is.)

Rolling Stone has the full remarks of fellow Beastie Adam Horovitz, but here are his closing lines:

  • "I got lucky 'cause I got two great sisters and two great brothers, but I got extra lucky because around 1982, I got the chance to choose two other brothers: Mike Diamond and Adam Yauch. And together our families have grown. I'd like to thank the New York Parks Department and the people of Brooklyn for honoring my friend and brother, and recognizing how cool it is to have an Adam Yauch park for other crazy New York kids."
