Call it the Biden defense. A man in Washington state is in legal trouble after he fired his shotgun into the air to scare away people he thought were breaking into his vehicles. His unusual defense? “I did what Joe Biden told me to do,” he tells KOIN. "I went outside and fired my shotgun in the air.” Jeffery Barton, 52, was referring to comments the VP made in February in which he suggested people buy shotguns for protection, as opposed to automatic weapons.

“I said, 'Jill, if there’s ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony here … put that double-barreled shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house,’” Biden said, referring to his wife. Deputies were unswayed by Barton's argument, however, mainly because he wasn't firing his gun in self-defense. He is charged with illegally aiming or discharging a weapon.
