Gunman Near Connecticut Campus Had Assault Rifle
William Dong.   (West Haven Police Department)

More school-gun jitters for Connecticut: Police have charged a 22-year-old man with a slew of weapons charges after he prompted a lockdown of the University of New Haven campus yesterday, reports the Hartford Courant. Police say William Dong, 22, was armed with two handguns and had an assault rifle in his car when he was arrested while walking near the UNH campus. In his home, police found newspaper clippings about mass shootings, reports the New Haven Register.

Police haven't released any information about what Dong might have been doing. He is being held on $500,000 bail on charges that include illegal possession of an assault weapon, illegal transport of an assault weapon, breach of peace, and illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle. It's the third such university lockdown in Connecticut in recent weeks, notes AP, including a scare at Yale last week that police think was a hoax. Meanwhile, the 911 recordings from Newtown were released today. (More New Haven stories.)
