Cops: Smuggler Caught Using Fake Border Patrol SUV
Border Patrol agents stopped a man allegedly trying to smuggle undocumented immigrants inside a fake Border Patrol SUV.   (US Customs and Border Protection)

There's such a fine line between clever and stupid. On Thursday, a Border Patrol agent in Laredo, Texas, stopped a man allegedly attempting to smuggle a dozen undocumented immigrants in the back of a fake Border Patrol SUV, the New York Daily News reports. "To a casual observer, the cloned vehicle appeared to be a law enforcement vehicle conducting official business, but to the observant Border Patrol agent something was not quite right," according to a US Customs and Border Protection statement. After the stop, agents found the 12 undocumented workers squeezed in the back of the Chevrolet Tahoe, and the driver was arrested. The local Border Patrol chief notes smugglers are resorting to "desperate measures." The investigation is ongoing. (More smuggling stories.)
