President Trump appeared to break from royal protocol Friday during an official visit to the UK when he seemed to step in front of Queen Elizabeth II. For a few moments, Mr. Trump walked just ahead of Her Majesty while the pair inspected the queen's honor guard, per the New York Times. In footage of the event, Trump seems to then stop, thus cutting off the queen and forcing her to slightly pivot around him. The move elicited a flurry of condemnation on social media, as well as UK headlines blasting Trump's conduct, such as Metro's "Donald Trump walking in front of the Queen will make you rage." As the Times notes, Mr. Trump and first lady Melania Trump may have broken with protocol earlier in the trip when they both declined to curtsy or bow to the queen.

Trump's meeting with the queen followed an arguably more controversial meeting with UK Prime Minister Theresa May, after which the president dressed down the British leader's handling of Brexit because, as he said, she declined to follow his advice on the matter. As Trump now settles in for several days of work, relaxation and golf at his resort in Scotland ahead of a much ballyhooed meeting with Valdimir Putin, some 10,000 demonstrators took to the streets in the country's capital of Edinburgh on Saturday to protest the American president and his policies. Trump is due to meet with the Russian leader in Helsinki on Monday, just days after news hit that twelve Russian intelligence officers have been indicted on charges they hacked into Democratic email accounts during the 2016 US presidential election.
