(Newser) – Simone Biles had quite a night. The 21-year-old not only became the first woman to win a fifth US women's gymnastics title on Sunday, she did so while sending a message about sexual abuse. Biles wore a teal leotard, the color designated for survivors, and Biles tells the AP she came up with the plan eight months ago while training to come back after taking all of 2017 off. "(The color) is for the survivors," said Biles, who revealed earlier this year that she was one of the gymnasts abused by USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar. "I stand with all of them and I think it's kind of special to unite (people)."

Eight months ago, it wasn't clear how her comeback would go, but Biles didn't just win, she dominated. She took gold in all five events in the competition, the first woman to do that since Dominique Dawes in 1994, reports NBC News. In doing so, Biles became the first non-teen to win the women's all-around title since 1971. Biles brought home four golds and a bronze from the 2016 Rio Olympics, and she intends to make the 2020 team as well. "She pushes us," says fellow gymnast Riley McCusker, who finished a distant third. "I'm honestly just in awe of her."
