Some prefer the hustle and bustle of big cities, but others crave the relative coziness and charm of a smaller metropolis—as well as the affordability and ease of getting around. WalletHub looked at upward of 1,200 US cities with between 25,000 and 100,000 residents, examining everything from the cost of living and quality of life (e.g., commute times, restaurants, and parks) to how safe it is to live there. Read on for the top 10, all of which fell into the top 1% of small cities in America:

  1. Leawood, Kan. (No. 1 in "Affordability")
  2. Carmel, Ind.
  3. Princeton, NJ (No. 1 in "Economic Health")
  4. Brentwood, Tenn.
  5. Milton, Mass.
  6. Needham, Mass.
  7. Los Altos, Calif.
  8. Littleton, Colo.
  9. Newton, Mass.
  10. West Fargo, ND
