Late Monday afternoon, St. Paul's Cathedral tweeted that it was shutting down for the rest of the day. News on why soon followed: A teenager fell to his death from the building's Whispering Gallery, almost 260 steps up (nearly 100 feet) inside the dome. A City of London Police spokeswoman says a report came in just before 4pm local time that a "male in his late teens ... had fallen from the gallery"; his death isn't being treated as suspicious, the Evening Standard reports. A London Ambulance Service rep says the young man died at the scene despite efforts to resuscitate him, per the Guardian. CNN notes a woman plunged to her death from the Whispering Gallery in 2017.
