Woman Boards Flight, Gets Shocking AirDrop Message

Air travel can already be stressful, but try starting a flight with an unwanted dose of pornographic imagery—which is exactly what happened to Kat Pitman, USA Today reports. The 40-year-old says she had just boarded a Southwest Airlines flight from Louisville to Chicago on Friday when her iPhone buzzed with an AirDrop request. The sender's name was Dildo Baggins (you read that right) and the image was clearly lewd. "It was just very explicit," says the frequent flyer. "It just shocked me." So she turned off AirDrop, which lets people send photos and other documents wirelessly, then turned it back on to snap a screenshot. That's when two more requests arrived and she showed them to two male flight attendants, per the New York Daily News.

One of them grabbed the intercom and warned "Mr. Baggins" to cut it out. "There was no question," says Pitman. "They weren't like, 'What's AirDrop?' They just took care of it. They continued to check on me during the flight and as I left the flight. I just was incredibly impressed.'' A Southwest rep confirmed the incident but called it a rare thing on the airline. Yet similar "cyber flashing" incidents have been reported in Toronto, New York, and other cities, and New York's city council is mulling a bill to punish perpetrators with up to a year in jail or a $1,000 fine, per the New York Times. One way to avoid flashers: Change your AirDrop settings to receive files from "contacts only" instead of "everyone." (Meanwhile, a guy mentioned over 100 times in the Mueller report is up on child-porn charges.)
