(Newser) – Anthony Scaramucci didn't last long in the White House, but he continues to linger as a public thorn in President Trump's side. On Monday, the former White House communications chief declared on CNN that Trump has "gone off the rails," sounds "more and more nonsensical," and acts like a "demagogue," reports Politico. The interview came a day after Scaramucci said this to Axios: "A couple more weeks like this and 'country over party' is going to require the Republicans to replace the top of the ticket in 2020." Scaramucci said he's a "loyal Republican" but no longer backs Trump for reelection.

The former aide has been criticizing Trump more and more of late, and Trump shot back over the weekend. "Anthony Scaramucci, who was quickly terminated (11 days) from a position that he was totally incapable of handling, now seems to do nothing but television as the all time expert on 'President Trump,'" tweeted the president. "Like many other so-called television experts, he knows very little about me." As part of his new criticism, Scaramucci said Trump "is giving people a license to hate, to provide a source of anger, to go after each other," adding that it's no longer worth putting up with that just to get GOP-friendly economic policies. (Scaramucci's 11-day tenure at the White House ended after a profanity-laced interview.)
