(Newser) – It wasn't supposed to be an official announcement, but Jane Lynch revealed at an Emmy ceremony Sunday that she's set to be one of the stars in a modern version of The Golden Girls. Even better: Cyndi Lauper will be a co-star. "I pitched a show to Netflix and they bought it," Lynch told reporters, per Variety. When asked for details on the show, she added: "We’re our age, I’m almost 60 and she’s 65 (Lauper is actually 66), and we’re looking for our next act, without ever having had husbands or children. And there will be two other people who haven’t been cast yet. But it's kind of a Golden Girls for today.”

Deadline reports that the half-hour comedy series has been in development for about a month. Writer and comedian Carol Leifer is apparently a creator as well, with Variety digging up this Facebook post from her a few months ago: “It’s official, heading out next with a new half-hour comedy, starring Jane Lynch and Cyndi Lauper,” she wrote. “A writer’s dream to work with these two legends." Writer and producer Stephen Engel also is reportedly on board. (Lynch picked up a guest-star Emmy for her work in the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.)
