A Nebraska woman trying to burn love letters from an ex-boyfriend gave her apartment a smoldering look. Investigators say 19-year-old Ariauna Lillard tried to burn the letters with a butane torch but gave up and took a nap after it looked like they hadn't ignited, the Smoking Gun reports. She woke up to find that the letters—and the carpet she had left them on—were in flames. She escaped the apartment and firefighters put out the blaze, which caused an estimated $4,000 in damage but no injuries, reports KLKN. None of the other rental units in the complex were damaged. The Lincoln resident was cited for negligent burning and has a court date next month. (More love letter stories.)
