After fatally stabbing his mother, the son of actor Ron Ely was shot 24 times by deputies despite not having a weapon, authorities revealed Tuesday. Outside the Tarzan actor's California home on Oct. 15, Cameron Ely told the responding deputies "that he had a gun, advanced towards the deputies, and motioned with his hands as if he were drawing a weapon," the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office says, per KSBY. It was only after four deputies opened fire that they realized the 30-year-old licensed security guard "had feigned being armed," per People. Authorities, continuing to investigate, have not commented on motive. Autopsies on Valerie Ely and her son, who graduated from Harvard with a degree in psychology in 2012 and also played football for the school, are pending. (He first blamed his dad for his mother's death.)
