Police in North Carolina say that while they're still awaiting confirmation from the medical examiner, they're confident that two people found shot to death Sunday are missing teenagers Lyric Woods and Devin Clark. The bodies were found near a trail in western Orange County by two men riding ATVs Sunday afternoon, the News & Observer reports. Woods, a 14-year-old ninth-grader, was reported missing by her family Saturday and Clark, an 18-year-old senior at a different high school, was reported missing by his family early Sunday. Police have not announced any arrests in connection with the case.

"In the absence of any other missing persons matching the descriptions of individuals located, the tragic but logical conclusion is increasingly clear, " Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood said Monday. "This loss is devastating for the victims’ families and friends, and indeed for the entire community." According to missing person reports filed by the famiiles, Clark and Woods were both last seen around 11pm Friday. Woods was reported missing by her stepfather after he went to wake her up around 10am Saturday. Her body was found around 2 miles from her home in Hillsborough. Investigators describe the teens as acquaintances.

David White, who lives near where the bodies were found, tells ABC11 that he heard multiple shots. "I heard close to 10 shots going off like an automatic gun and paused for a little bit, and five more shots went off," he says. "I thought, 'who's shooting this late at night?'" A moment of silence was held at a soccer game between the teens' high schools Monday night. "This past weekend, Devin Clark, an Eastern Alamance student, and Lyric Woods, a Cedar Ridge student, tragically lost their lives," the announcer said. Stan Dean, Woods' grandfather, erected a cross Tuesday where the bodies were found, the News & Observer reports. He said he put lights on it "because she was afraid of the dark."
