Dr. Mehmet Oz has long come under scrutiny over the question of whether he's actually a "carpetbagger" from New Jersey running for Senate in neighboring Pennsylvania, and his latest comment isn't helping much with that issue. Speaking with Sean Hannity on Fox News Monday, Oz said, "Pennsylvania is way is too important. And listen, this is important, we do not have a Republican senator north of North Carolina on the Atlantic coast, until you get to Maine, if I don’t hold this seat. There’s been a Republican senator in Pennsylvania most of my life, I’m gonna keep one here as well." Pennsylvania is not on the Atlantic coast, but New Jersey is, the Guardian points out.

Newsweek calls the mockery that followed a "tidal wave of ridicule," pointing to tweets like this one from Democratic strategist Jesse Ferguson:

"OZ: I can see coast line from my house*

*house is in Jersey"

Many others issued similar takes, suggesting Oz was thinking of his real home state (New Jersey) when answering the question. Democratic rival John Fetterman has long trolled Oz on the residency issue, filming campaign ads with celebrities who are famously from Jersey and at one point even trying to get Oz inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame.
