Gordon Brown is livid and his colleagues in the Labour Party are ripping up copies of the Sun in public after Rupert Murdoch ended 12 years of support and backed Conservative David Cameron this week. “We don't need an Australian-American coming to our country with a paper that has never supported any progressive policies ... telling us how politics should be run in this country," said one union leader.

Brown nearly stormed off a subsequent interview on Murdoch's Sky News, notes the Independent, accusing the interviewer of being a "political propagandist." Murdoch's move is a blow to Brown's ever-shrinking chances of avoiding election defeat next year, and the Guardian lays out how the media mogul's relations with Cameron—whom he once denounced as a "lightweight"—began to warm up with a private dinner last year, followed by a visit to Murdoch's yacht.
