Furious women's groups are demanding that CBS yank a controversial anti-abortion Super Bowl ad by an ultra-conservative evangelical organization. It's the first time Focus on the Family, which battles gay marriage and abortion rights, is spending millions to deliver its message during the NFL's big game. "We urge you to immediately cancel this ad," states a letter from 31 women's groups. But CBS, which has long refused to accept advocacy ads, has changed its policy and will not refuse the ad, Reuters reports.
The move is being supported by the NFL. "CBS approved the content of the ad as appropriate for the audience. We take no issue with CBS' decision," said a spokesman. The 30-second spot features college football star Tim Tebow and his mother, who talks about her decision not to abort her son despite doctors' recommendations. They agreed to appear because "the issue of life is one they feel very strongly about," said a statement on the evangelical organization's website. (Read more James Dobson stories.)
