Mosque Supporters Rally at Ground Zero

Candlelight, songs, and prayers drifted near Ground Zero last night, reports the Washington Post, as hundreds rallied not to remember those lost nine years ago today, but in support of the proposed mosque two blocks away. Organizers said they staged the event on September 10 so as not to detract from the actual anniversary, when memorials as well as mosque protests are planned. Said one supporter, who'd taken a class from Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, "I just had to put my body someplace with other people and stand up with my presence for tolerance."
