Barry's Heart is in San Francisco
San Francisco Giants' Barry Bonds waves goodbye to the fans at AT&T Park after his final at bat on Sept. 26. The Giants didn't offer him a contract for 2008.   (Associated Press)

He sounded like a man who wanted to stay. At a tribute to the former San Francisco slugger, Barry Bonds was read a list of his baseball accomplishments and then asked if he'd actually achieved all those marks. His response? "I did and then I got fired," a reference to not getting a contract offer, reports the AP.

Appearing before a audience that had one notable absence - Willie Mays - Bonds mused "I don't work there anymore" when asked how he would improve the team. Despite that, the all-time home run leader left a little wiggle room for a possible return to the Giants, saying things could change with owner Peter Magowan. (More MLB stories.)
