Paraplegic Saves Shopkeeper

Being stuck in a wheelchair didn't stop a Vancouver man from playing the hero this weekend, when he helped a store clerk fend off an angry customer, CBC reports. The customer was trying to pay with a counterfeit $50 note, and when shopkeeper Cindy Grewal spotted it and refused to return it to him, he angrily went behind the counter. Then, "boom, I try to grab him," said Larry Skopnik, a paraplegic who was next in line.

The two men grappled, and "his weight pulled me out of my chair," Skopnik said. Two other men then intervened, holding the man until police arrived. "My heart goes to him," Grewal said of Skopnik. "Not even thinking for a moment that he is in a wheelchair—such a sweetheart." Police didn't charge the customer, calling the assault minor and saying it's difficult to prove intent to counterfeit.
