Rupert Murdoch has added New Yorker music critic Sasha Frere-Jones to the roster of his upcoming iPad "newspaper," reports David Carr in the New York Times. Frere-Jones has been hired as the culture editor of the Daily, which Murdoch's News Corp. is currently developing for the Apple tablet. It's expected to debut before the end of the year.

Murdoch is said to be very hands-on in development because he thinks the Daily "will demonstrate that consumers are willing to pay for high quality, original content specifically designed for a burgeoning category of high-end digital readers," writes Carr. Frere-Jones won't give up his New Yorker gig.
