Two Americans were shot dead in their truck early yesterday as they waited to enter the US at a border crossing near Tijuana. A gunman approached a line of vehicles waiting at the San Ysidro border crossing and fired into the men's pickup truck, AP reports. Investigators recovered 9-mm shell casings, the type of ammunition favored by drug cartel gunmen.

The victims, Sergio Salcido Luna, 25, and Kevin Joel Romero, 28, worked in San Diego and lived in Tijuana to save money, their employer tells the San Diego Union-Tribune. "They were good guys,” he said. “I don’t think they were dealing drugs, selling drugs had anything to do with drugs. They were both very hardworking individuals. They had a zest for life."
