The White House's decision not to release gruesome photos of Osama bin Laden's corpse doesn't make a lot of sense in a country that sees gaping head wounds every night on shows like Bones and CSI, Jon Stewart argues. "I’m all for healthy skepticism and even though bin Laden’s widow positively identified the body to Pakistani authorities, why wouldn’t we release the headshot of bin Laden’s head… shot?" the Daily Show host wondered.

Stewart suggested that if the administration is set against releasing the photos to the public, it could "prove" bin Laden's death to skeptics by allowing members of the media to view and report on the images. "Maybe we should always show pictures. We can only make decisions about war if we see what war actually is," Stewart said, noting that graphic images of people killed by the US military are already routinely shown on networks like al-Jazeera.
