Sheriff Joe Arpaio is introducing a new Spanish version of his hit underwear, in what he says is a bid to “raise eyebrows as well as sales.” The anti-immigration crusader has for years produced pink boxers bearing the slogan, “Go Joe,” the Arizona Republic explains. Inmates are forced to wear them, but supporters often buy them, too—Arpaio boasts that Sarah Palin and Hugh Hefner have each purchased a pair. Now, he’s expanding the line with boxers that read “Vamos Jose!”

“It will raise more money to help at-risk youth and it is a poke in the eye to the critics who for years have called me racist because of my tough stance on illegal immigration,” Arpaio says. “I'm not a racist and have never been.” One Latina immigration activist scoffed at that pronouncement. "Who is he trying to convince?" she asked. "He is trying too hard to convince us." (More Joe Arpaio stories.)
