9 Days After Storm, 88K in Connecticut Still Lack Power

Nine days after an early snowstorm knocked out power to millions around the northeast, tens of thousands of homes remain in the dark, reports the AP. In Connecticut alone, 88,000 people are still without electricity, and likely will not have power restored until Wednesday, said a senior executive at Connecticut Light & Power. New Jersey and Massachusetts also had hundreds still without power yesterday.

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy has launched an investigation into the utilities' response to the power outages, including complaints that CL&P put residents in danger with its slow response to dealing with downed power lines on roads. Frustrated, some Connecticut residents have taken to the Internet to mock the power company. "Rumors that my gold-plated residential backup generator runs on the refined tears of orphan children are totally unfounded," read one Facebook post, which was paired with a photo of the utility's president.
