Rush Limbaugh squirted new fuel on the birth control insurance fire with some choice words yesterday. He called a law-student birth control advocate planning to testify at a government hearing "a slut." Can "you imagine if you were her parents how proud you would be?" Limbaugh scoffed. "Your daughter testifies she's having so much sex she can't afford her own birth control pills and she wants President Obama to provide them—or the Pope." He added: "What does it say about the college coed who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex—what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute."

Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke was blocked last month from testifying before the GOP-controlled House Oversight and Government Reform committee about the Obama administration's policy supporting contraception coverage for workers at Catholic organizations. Chairman Darrell Issa only allowed a series of men, including a bishop, to testify, triggering a walkout by female Democrats. Fluke later testified at an unofficial Democratic hearing, and spoke about the need for birth control for both reproductive and other health reasons. (More Rush Limbaugh stories.)
