'Spoiler alerts' aren't working, says Daily Show host

The bizarre phenomenon of Olympic "spoiler alerts" is driving Jon Stewart nuts. CNN asks viewers to put the TV on mute before the newscasters go on to announce results. "People watch CNN not on mute?" Stewart asked incredulously on last night's Daily Show, poking at the ways people actually do watch the network: "Please look down at your treadmill ... or board your plane."

Fox News, meanwhile, has pasted the name of the winner onscreen, so even its call for viewers to mute won't exactly help: "Why is Ryan Lochte winking at me? I guess I'll find out tonight!?" And NBC cut from an announcement that it was minutes from airing swimmer Missy Franklin's quest for gold to a montage discussing Franklin's first ... gold. (More The Daily Show stories.)
