Police are searching for a stocky black man who reportedly shot five women dead in a Chicago mall burglary this morning, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Police surrounded the Tinley Park mall after shots were reported at a Lane Bryant store just before 11 a.m. “There is no question it was a horrific scene,’’ said a police source.

Cops combed through Target and PetSmart stores with guns drawn but found the assailant gone, witnesses said. A helicopter is hovering over the scene at the Brookside Marketplace shopping center, where the 191st Street and Harlem Avenue area is completely blocked off. "We're checking every possible means of getting out of this area," Tinley Park Police Sgt. T.J. Grady said. (More Chicago stories.)
