Hillary Clinton choked up on the campaign trail again today, the Chicago Tribune reports, and dabbed at her left eye during a moving introduction by an old friend in New Haven. Her old boss was describing his pride that the bell-bottomed woman he knew was now a presidential candidate. "Well, I said I would not tear up; already we're not exactly on that path," Clinton responded.

As it did the last time Clinton showed her softer side, just before the New Hampshire primary, debate began immediately over whether the show of emotion was genuine or tactical. A New York Daily News blogger noted the "remarkably similar" setup: "She was tired, working on very little sleep, in a friendly, receptive setting, with Barack Obama surging in the polls."
