(Newser) – A man who struggled with US Customs and Border Protection agents at the San Ysidro, Calif., crossing on Christmas Eve died after being Tasered. The 40-year-old came into the US from Mexico via the pedestrian walkway around 7pm, the Los Angeles Times reports, but agents soon discovered an outstanding felony warrant against him. They took him to a security office, seized heroin from him, and tried to arrest him, but he leaped over a counter and attacked two officers, according to a statement from the agency. Another officer used a Taser in an attempt to subdue him, and he "became unresponsive and stopped breathing," a lieutenant says. CPR could not revive him. San Diego police and a number of other agencies are investigating, and the medical examiner will determine the cause of death. (Read more border crossing stories.)
