Lady Gaga recently split with her fiance, which is only adding fuel to the fire of her recent performances with A Star Is Born director and co-star Bradley Cooper. Gaga, 32, and Cooper, 44, first raised eyebrows last month with a steamy performance of their song "Shallow" in Las Vegas, then followed it up with an intimate duet at the Oscars on Sunday that got the rumor mill buzzing all over again as social media users noted their "chemistry," per the Hollywood Reporter. Lady Gaga appeared on Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show Wednesday, and the topic was broached, with the singer offering an explanation complete with eyerolling.

"People saw love, and guess what, that's what we wanted you to see," she told Kimmel. "This is a love song ... the movie ... is a love story." Gaga said the two practiced the song all week leading up to the awards show, and that Cooper wanted to pull the audience back into the same "illusion of love" he'd conveyed in the movie, per Mashable. "I'm an artist, and guess we did a good job, and fooled ya!" Gaga said. She added that it was important for them to remain "connected" during the performance, much as she's done when performing with other stars, including Tony Bennett. "I've had my arms wrapped around Tony Bennett for three years touring the world," she said. "When you're singing love songs, that's what you want people to feel." (More Lady Gaga stories.)
