President Trump's lawyer likened House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to "Red Scare" Sen. Joseph McCarthy on Sunday night, saying she wants to see Trump in prison but "doesn't have a particular crime in mind." Pelosi said Trump "should go to prison," Giuliani tweeted. "But she said nothing about a trial or a jury or a presumption of innocence. Is this worse than Joe McCarthy? They are destroying any adherence to our constitution. And the Fake News failure to hold them accountable is corrupt." Sources said last week that Pelosi told fellow Democrats that instead of impeaching Trump, it would be better to defeat him in 2020 and see him prosecuted for alleged wrongdoing, the Hill reports.

"If you can't see she’s over the top, if not over the Hill, you are blinded by partisanship or hatred," Giuliani, who is four years younger than Pelosi, said in another tweet. Trump described Pelosi last week as a "nasty, vindictive, horrible person" when he was asked about the prison comment. Democratic Rep. David Cicilline, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, defended Pelosi's alleged remarks in a Fox News Sunday appearance, Politico reports. "It’s kind of rich to have the president complain about this when he began a campaign with 'lock her up' as his bumper sticker and led an effort to delegitimize the first African-American president by claiming he wasn’t born in this country," he said.
