iPhone Hits Stores June 29

Mac will release feverishly anticipated super-gadget—but will the hype ring hollow?

The wait will be over for millions of tech groupies on June 29—when the iPhone, the highly anticipated device that merges web browsing, music playing, and telephoning, will hit Apple and AT&T stores worldwide. But the hype over what some call "the God machine" has already reached hysterical proportions, according to the Times.

"It’s software wrapped in wonderful hardware,” proclaims CEO Steve Jobs. But some Apple execs fret that that the iPhone won't deliver—hat expectations are too high and the first generation will be disappointing. And the $600 price tag on the larger of two models may scare away all but the most fervent Mac fanboys. (More Apple stories.)
