(Newser) – The search continues for the gunman who shot two Los Angeles County deputies at close range over the weekend, and authorities hope a new incentive will help. The county sheriff's department has announced a $100,000 reward, reports NBC News. Surveillance video shows that the gunman walked up to a parked police car Saturday night in Compton and opened fire without provocation. Coverage:

  • Will survive: Both deputies were shot in the head but are expected to survive, reports the Los Angeles Times. One is a 31-year-old mother of a 6-year-old boy, and the other is a 24-year-old male. Both were sworn in 14 months ago from the same training class.
