White House Takes Census Fight to Supreme Court

The ongoing census battle has reached the highest court in the land. After a federal judge ordered the 2020 census to continue through the end of October and a US appeals court on Wednesday refused to reverse that ruling, the Trump administration that same day filed an emergency request with the Supreme Court asking it to stop the count now. The administration had instituted an Oct. 5 deadline that it said was necessary in order for the Commerce Department to get results to the White House by its Dec. 31 deadline, but opponents say that's not enough time to ensure minority populations are fully counted, the Hill reports. Per Axios, the Census Bureau said after the federal judge's ruling that it would continue its count until Oct. 31.
