Since Abortion Story Broke, Herschel Walker Has Raised More Than $500K

After allegations that Herschel Walker paid for an ex-girlfriend's abortion made headlines, the former NFL player and current Republican Senate candidate in Georgia raised more than $500,000, according to a source who spoke to NBC News. The source says $50,000 of that came in during Walker's interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity in the wake of the Daily Beast report on the abortion allegations. Walker's campaign, however, still trails incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock in overall fundraising. Warnock has raised $85 million this cycle and Walker $20 million. But they're neck-and-neck in the polls, CNBC reports.

The Daily Beast isn't letting up: Its latest report notes that it's strange Walker claims to have no idea who the ex-girlfriend in question is, because the woman, whom the site is not identifying in its reports, proved to the Daily Beast she is the mother of one of Walker's children—a child he has publicly acknowledged as his own. More on that here. Meanwhile, Walker's backers, even anti-abortion groups, appear to be standing by him despite the allegations, which Walker denies. Example: The Susan B. Anthony List says "Herschel Walker wants to protect unborn children while Raphael Warnock wants to see them die through unlimited abortion."

The New York Times has a full article on that, which notes, "Republicans raced to close ranks behind Mr. Walker on Tuesday, fearing that any break with the former football star could cost the party a seat that is widely seen as central to the Republican Party’s chances to take control of the Senate in 2022." Amid the drama, Walker released a new campaign ad Wednesday in which he discusses his mental health journey. "As everyone knows, I had a real battle with mental health—even wrote a book about it. And by the grace of God, I’ve overcome it," he says. (More Herschel Walker stories.)
